If the doctor has authorised your medication as a repeat, you will be able to obtain a repeat prescription. Please organise your requests for repeat prescriptions in good time to allow our staff to deal with them efficiently.
Please be aware that all repeat prescription requests can take up to 7 working days to be sent to the pharmacy. This is due to the current increase in patient demand and pressure of NHS work that we face.
You may request this:
Your completed prescription will be sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice. If you do not already have a regular 'nominated' pharmacy, it would be helpful to nominate the pharmacy you would like to use on your request.
Newly registered patients must see the doctor or practice nurse for authorisation of repeat prescriptions.
To avoid the possibility of any errors, requests for repeat prescriptions cannot be taken over the telephone.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
